EUROPEAN UNION (EU)

The European Union (EU) is an economic and political union of European member states. The EU operates through a system of supranational independent institutions and intergovernmental negotiated decisions by the member states. Institutions of the EU include the European Commission, the Council of the European Union, the European Council, the Court of Justice of the European Union, the European Central Bank, the Court of Auditors, and the European Parliament. The European Parliament is elected every five years by EU citizens. The EU's de facto capital is Brussels.

The EU is one of the largest publishers of online information in the world and the hunt for information can seem complex.  Every day a huge range of information goes online, including legislation, statistics, press releases, policy reports and more.

All EU institutions and agencies have their own websites. EU offices in each of the member countries and in countries around the world also have their own sites. Other online services address a range of topics, from finding a company’s
VAT number to ordering EU publications and helping people looking for jobs abroad.

UNITED NATIONS EDUCATIONAL, SCIENTIFIC AND CULTURAL ORGANIZATION (UNESCO) | WORLD HERITAGE CONVENTION (WHC)

In 1945, UNESCO was created in order to respond to the firm belief of nations, forged by two world wars in less than a generation, that political and economic agreements are not enough to build a lasting peace. Peace must be established on
the basis of humanity’s moral and intellectual solidarity.

UNESCO strives to build networks among nations that enable this kind of solidarity, by: Mobilizing for education: so that every child, boy or girl, has access to quality education as a fundamental human right and as a prerequisite for human development.

Building intercultural understanding: through protection of heritage and support for cultural diversity. UNESCO created the idea of World Heritage to protect sites of outstanding universal value.
